USB Devices with the same serial number

I have 2 Startech 2.0 USB Raid Drive Enclosures that I purchased at the same time. Imagine my surprise to discover that they *appear* to have the exact same USB serial number assigned to them. As a result, if I plug one in it works perfectly. If I plug in the second, it is not recognized - until the other is unplugged. I am seeing this exact same behavior in Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, dd-wrt router firmware (router has usb port) and the standard netgear WNDR3700 and R7000 Nighthawk routers.

Is there any type of workaround to this problem?
