USB devices slowdown while on a hub??

I just got a USB hub since I recently got a USB printer. I left my mouse on one of the USB ports on the computer and plugged the USB hub into the other one. On the hub itself, I have my USB DSL modem and my HP Printer. However, it seems that my internet connection is slower than before. I went to a DSL speed test page and before I got the hub I was getting about 1100 mbps download and now I am only getting about 500 mbps download.

(1) Maybe I just picked a bad time to test, but does using a USB hub typically slow the attached devices down?

(2) Should I plug all my devices (mouse, modem, printer) into the hub with the hub being the only cable into the computer or is there a better setup than the way I have it now?

I know one thing for sure: the USB hub is going out the window if it truly does cause the DSL modem to be slower. . . .

the problem may be with the fact that usb speed are only 1.5 mbs with the printer and the modem on the same hub this may be causing a bottle neck. try puting the mouse on the hub with the printer and put the modem directly to the computer. tell us if that helps.

Well, I switched the mouse and the modem (the mouse is on the hub and the modem is attached physically to the computer USB port like before). And my connection speed is slower! My server is slow for some reason tonight, but I think having the modem attached to the hub was causing it to slow down.

Anyway, the mouse and printer work great on the hub and the modem is setup the way it was before I got the hub, so that will take care of any bottleneck problems regarding the hub.
