USB Devices are going to Sleep

I am facing a problem that my USB keyboard and mouse at times dont wake up.

What i mean is if I leave my PC idle then they dont respond at all. I have to switch of the PC and wait for couple of seconds, when I restart they start working again.

When this situation happens replugging, replugging on different USB slots etc just does not help.

Have been trying to google for solution but no luck. Then I was tinkering and found one error today and wondering if the error and my problem is co-related.

The error message is there attached as pic. . I am on Windows 7 64bit edition. My Config
Intel Core I7 920, Gigabyte X 58 UD5, Gskill F3-12800CL7T-6GB, GTX 580 , Xonar Essence ST, Klipsch GM X Pro 2.1, Prolimatech Megahalems Mega Shadow, OCZ Vertex 2 50GB SSD & 2x1TB & 2x1tbExt, Corsair HX 850, Samsung PX2370 LED , Silverstone FT02, Microsoft Sidewinder X6, Razer Mamba, 2 Silverstone FM121B, Steelseries 7H Headset

Do let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Anant

Check your CMOS to see if it recognizes your drive correctly. If it does, save the CMOS, and reboot. That may clear the problem indicated by the error message about your hard drive MBR (Master Boot Record) and suggests that it may clear up the other problems.

If that doesn't work, try using the jumper to clear and reset the CMOS.

Check Gigabyte's BIOS download page for your board for a later version than yours. They show a beta BIOS version F13j that is supposed to provide "enhanced USB keyboard compatibility."

Before you try that, you may find that a previous, more recent BIOS version helps. Be sure the BIOS utility allows you to back up your current BIOS so you can restore it if the new one (especially a beta version) causes other problems.

Good luck. 🙂

Harvey, i will do the CMOS clearing , there is a clear CMOS button so dont need to figure out jumpers

However options like updating my bios and changing power settings so that USB dont go on sleep is already on.

plus bios drivers are like for new keyboards, first i think keyboard is older model plus mouse too goes to sleep. so figured that isnt the issue

ok another update

yes bios are updated, power settings tweaked, in bios usb kb/mouse is on etc is done

I have a backlit keyboard and now while i was working n googling for solutions, suddenly mouse pointer started stuttering and then keyboards back lit lights started blinking n suddenly they all gone. and unplugging/replugging didnt help at all. 🙁

is it now mobo or ram or power supply issue ? any clues? i just opened my case removed rams , power mobo connector and cpu connector n started again lets see how long this lasts?

Check your Windows power management settings for peripherals. Turn off all sleep ,stuff and go from there.

We had a similar problem here in our office. Out of convenience someone plugged their mouse and keyboard to their monitor's USB hub which was then connected to the PC's USB. Whenever the monitor would sleep enough to go into very low power mode, their keyboard and mouse won't respond. They'd press the power button on the PC which then woke up the monitor and of course it'd ask them to save their work since apps are closing because the PC would like to shutdown. The solution was to turn off the super duper ultra 'power savings' mode on the monitor.

What corkyg suggested can be done in the 'Device Manager.' You'll have to dig into your mouse, keyboard's, and maybe even the USB controller's properties and check the power management tab. There is also a command line available, something like 'query power' that will help narrow this down. Best of luck.

@Razel and Corky

I already did power management and they aint on sleep. I mean those were one of the first things i did.

Ok just an update, this time when things go stuck, i realized my phone and ipod which were sharing same back side slots of motherboard, were still getting charged.

My pc does that to. I disabled sleep and also disabled my usb devices from going to sleep. From what I gather, the problem is related to the Pagefile and if you disable it or set a custom limit it may be to small for the PC to "wake up".
