Hi,
I am trying to set up 2 additional USB ports while building a new system. The header on the motherboard has two rows of pins, with 5 in one row and only 4 in the other. Well, the USB extension I bought with two ports has each with their own seperate plug for 5 pins. Obviously I got the wrong ones, but didn't know there were different offerings. Any way to use this one I have or do I have to look for some new ones? Any ideas would be appreciated. How do I make sure I order the correct ones (if I have to), when ordering online? I don't have a convenient local PC shop that has this type of hardware.

I would get a pinout description of the usb headers on the motherboard, compare to others and see if there is just an extra pin. Here is the Asus page for all their accessories. I do not know if the cable/module listed is what you need. www.asus.com/Products/accessories.html. I believe the Asus cables are avialable thru distribution. ie Ingram Micro.

that "extra" pin is a non connection anyway. it does nothing.

heres some bad ascii art of it:

<Edited out for lack of monospaced characters>

As you probabily cant tell, the pins go in this order: No connection, Ground, + 3 volts, - 3 volts, Transmit. on the no connection, the missing and the visible pin serve to help you align how its supposed to plug in, so you dont do it upside down.

dotn worry, i thought the same thing you did when i first got USB connectors

kronchev, the wires on my extra USB ports plugs have 5 wires going into them. In order they are black, black, green, white, red. This doesn't seem to match what you said, or does it and I'm too thick headed?:eek: It's hell getting old! Is this still something I can use?
I didn't mention that this is an ECS K7S5A ATX board with the new SIS735 chipset, if that makes any difference.
