USB camera installation

Hi all
I have a web camera from my previous computer. It, and the driver disk, as from 2002. I have a new PC now, the one in my sig. The driver disk will go through the install process, but then will not allow reboot. When I manualy reboot, everything is as it was - no driver. My PC recognizes the cam connecting, but not the driver install.
Ideas?
And thanks

Well, you'll have to find a Vista driver for it or get a new Web-cam that has Vista drivers, duuuh... After all this time Win XP still has the best driver support - 64-bit (either XP or V) even worse. Even a noob should know that you have to have drivers for your hardware that match your OS. M$ usually provides a program that will test your system for compatibility with theie OSes so you'll know what you have to get updated drivers for or replace.

You'll have to get a new Camera. Unfortunatly Vista changed the way drivers work so all peripherals have to have Vista specific drivers. Well of couse most companies rather releace a new product with vista support rather then programing new drivers for the old pruducts. This allows them to make more money since people will have to buy things again. So unless you can find some generic driver that works your stuck spending the money on a new camera.

Thanks for the reply mpilchfamily.
Where can I get a generic driver to try out?
Also, is this the reason my simularly aged USB SD card reader is not working?

I don't think a card reader should need any special driver unless they made it non-standard in some way. Maybe the USB port you've been trying to hook it up to is hinky in some way. Try a different USB port or two to see if it isn't picked up OK.

Give us the details of the web camera... make and model no.

Also as Zepper stated, you should not need any drivers for the card reader.

only if you decide to keep old webcam is to delete vista os from your new pc and install windows xp then you are good to go.

Its called "Persol" and the model # is PBC001.
Purchased here in Japan. Perhaps a whole new cam is a good idea.
The card reader is important to sort out. Tried every USB port already. Its a 5-in-1 type. Didn't come with any drivers, etc.

Bought new cam and card reader, both work fine. Have a couple of doorstops now, I guess.
Wow, these make a total of 4 peripheral devices That worked fine on XP, and are now junk on Vista64. If I had known, I wouldn't have bothered upgrading.
Thanks for the help all.

Bought a Microsoft brand camera - worked immediately with no driver install needed.
I'm amazed how many dud peripherals there are! Even ones that say "approved for Vista"!
