USB cable takes out DSL.

So, I have a external Bergtek USB 2.0 enclosure that houses a WD SATA drive that I've been using for almost a year without issue. Last month I had my DSL package upgraded from 3Mbps to 8Mbps. As soon as that went into effect is when I started having issues. I know it sounds messed up but whenever that USB enclosure is plugged in my DSL connection hangs, I've duplicated this about a dozen times, it does it every time without fail. The enclosure get's it juice from that wall outlet. If I power the drive up without connecting the USB cable I have no issues. As soon as I connect the USB cable while the drive is plugged into the outlet I have issues, even if the drive is not powered on. I have tried three different USB cables, all pretty heavy duty, same issue, they aren't BS cables. I think I even tried a different phone line from the jack to the modem, same issue when that drive is connected.

I think the only way out is to pick up a different model enclosure and see what happens.

Any ideas? I'm not a newbie but I haven't seen this one before. I know DSL is sensitive to external electrical sources but a USB drive?

How your DSL is configured, and what devices are involved with Networking?

Nothing fancy, line coming from the jack into a Cyberpower UPS then into a splitter, one feeds a phone the other feeds my modem, then to my router. The computer in this room is wired. My laptop which connects wirelessly in the other room has the same issues when this USB drive is connected to my wired machine. Which strongly leads me to believe this USB drive is interfering with the phone line. All filters are in place. I have tried a different line from the jack right to my modem with that USB drive connected, same issue. Doesn't make sense I have other USB devices plugged in like my mouse and keyboard. I have CFL bulbs over my head and the DSL is rock solid even when they're on.

I'm thinking the wiring with the enclosure is hokey or something. Just don't know why I never had an issue when I was running at 3Mbps down. Maybe I did but didn't catch it.

By the way, the modem and filters have all been replaced.

Edit: I dug up my ancient LaCie external drive and hooked it up via USB and I have no issues. I'm going to have to buy a new enclosure, might as well get a USB 3.0 enclosure.
