USB Cable Modem Problem- Trying to Switch to Ethernet

Basically, I've been using a USB-connected cable modem for the time being and it has been giving me problems concerning file transfers in messengers and other problems as well as no one being able to connect to my computer at times. Since it is USB-connected, I can't do much because it doesn't show up in the "network connections" window. So I tried to connect it using the RJ-45 cable that came with the modem. At first I just reconnected it using that cable and put in the CD to install it, yet during installation it could not detect a connection between the modem and the computer for some reason. I tried to do several things like "repair" the connection and even tried giving it its own IP because it couldn't repair due to it not being able to connect to a DHCP server. Nothing has worked so far and I'm wondering what the problem is because I just want the ethernet connection to work out so I can actually edit it for future use. Thanks.

This is silly but power the cable modem off for 60 sec and turn it back on. It does MAC address authentication and may still think the USB cable is connected.

Er...you don't understand my problem...the USB works fine but I don't want to USE the USB, but rather the ethernet, which doesn't work (read closely). 🙂

Yeah...I don't plan on doing anything extra than what I already have to fix this problem...so if it can't be fixed, so be it.

I think you didn't listen to carefully to the recommendation for switching the modem off.

The USB and Ethernet ports have different MAC addresses, you need to turn off the cable modem, connect the Ethernet, and then turn it on. It should be as easy as falling off a log to get the Ethernet connected...

Silly me I have to grow up, for some reason I assume that people do what is suggested, and if they keep posting it means that the suggestion did not help. :brokenheart:
