USB Cable Modem and ICS

Are there any problems sharing a USB cable modem?
Will ICS work?
What hardware (if any) will allow me to share the USB connection?

I will be using @home. Any other issues with sharing a USB cable modem?
thanks.

I have @home and I take it buy USB cable modem you mean that you have a cable modem and are using a USB converter to get it to the computer right? If so, just buy a router and still use the USB converter and connect it to the cat 5 that comes from the router and then hook it into the converter and into the computer and its the same thing. Just this way you share connection without buying a new IP addy. Hope this helps you!!

Not sure. I haven't gotten the modem, yet. I used to have a cable modem that connected to a nic. When I ordered the new one, they asked me if I had USB, which I did so they said they would use that. Not sure if they are connecting via a converter or what. It would be silly as I have two nics in the pc already. But if they are using a converter cable I should be able to ditch it and connect with a standard cable, right?

If you have 2 NICS then ditch the converter and go in through them and you are set!! You dont need a USB when you have a NIC...LOL. Thats dumb ole @home for you!! Just tell them when they get there that you have 2 NICS and you want them to be used. But to share the connection without paying more a month, you need a router.

I was hoping that's what you'd say. @home is kind of dumb. I can't tell you how many times their 'help desk' told me my computer was the problem. I also had to lie to them about having their software and their version of IE/NS. They won't even talk to you if you don't have that stuff. Anyway, thanks again.

Actually you won't get any tech support anyway. No tier II tech will listen to you as long as you have more than 1 nic in your system...it's totally unsupported.

Unless you have your computer in a bubble they won't support it. They say you can get a computer virus that way. 😉 But, where I'm moving its the only thing available. No DSL, not McLeodUSA. Just ATT@Home. I suppose I should be happy I can get a cable modem at all. I'm 56k on NetZero until then.
