Question USB C - was it made too small?

I finally got around to buying some USB C flash drives.

I really like the fact that you can insert them either way - you don't have to fish around, trying to find out what way it needs to be to insert it.

However, I think they made a mistake in making it so small. Or, I guess, in not making the metal thicker on the connection.

When I have the flash drive plugged in, the metal pushes up and down far too much for my taste. I feel that it is not as sturdy
as the older style. I feel that the connector should have been about 1/2 the old size, instead of about 1/4, for strength and stability.

I would be worried if I had gamepad connectors hooked up, and my kids were playing them, and pulling various directions on the connector.

I can see these things possibly getting snapped off while hooked into a laptop, if something heavy drops against one, or a person's elbow shoves hard against it.

What are your thoughts?
 
In my experience it's bad. I'm using them everyday with multiple switching.
In the long run the connections usually become loose. Let alone bending issue. I rather prefer the more physically reliable USB-A. Not to say it won't suffer similar issues.

I think it would have been fine if they had made the metal about 2x or 3x as thick, but now it is small AND thin......
 
I hated micro-USB, but as far as feeling secure in the socket/port, it was typically better than usb-c imho. They feel 'loose' to me in almost every device I have with C ports. Phone, NUC, Samsung T5, usb-c hub, etc. None of them feel very secure when plugged in.

Micro-USB would usually have a touch of 'click' or 'snap' into the port. USB-C just kind of pushes in with no positive feedback to tell you that it's securely attached. And they wiggle around more easily.
