Question USB-C dock and extended display

I have a USB C dock to which I have connected:

Two monitors connected by HDMI, both of which run to a KVM switch that controls dual displays (extended) for two laptops
USB 3.0 to the KVM
USB 3.0 external HDD (has it's own power)
USB 3.0 external SSD HDD (USB powered)
USB printer (has it's own power)
USB 2.0 hub with two flash drives plugged in
LG Gram 17 laptop (65W power requirement)
100W USB-C PD

My problem: when I switch over to the other laptop, 7 out of 10 times all open windows on the Gram get put on the external monitor set as 1 (Primary). To clarify, even windows positioned on the laptop get moved to the external monitor I've set as Primary.

Any ideas what's happening? I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the dock and it needs to be returned, but I don't understand what signal it's sending back to the laptop to even try to troubleshoot. Spent a lot of time looking at docks and this one has the ports I want so trying to keep it.

Before I had the dock I had one monitor connected directly to the laptop via HDMI, the other monitor connected with an HDMI to USB converter, and never had problems when switching.
