I got my first laptop with this feature and it seems terrible. Besides the fact that it take up the port for other uses the connection is terribly inconsistent.

It appears to be plugged in completely and yet if a strong breeze blows past, connection stops and switches to battery power.
Luckily this model (VAIO FE14) has a traditional barrel plug charger.

At my work the company is moving away from the nice HP laptops with chunky docks properly powered to cheaper Lenovo laptops with an offbrand USB-C dock for everything. so all the throughput of power, 2 monitors, extra USBs, ect is riding on that flimsy connection. Not surprisingly there have been a lot of problems and complaints.

It had me worried thinking that in the next 5 years or so when I maybe in the market for a laptop upgrade if that is all I will find, USB-C powered.

Well, if you get one with a substantial GPU it shouldn't be much of a worry since it will exceed USB PD power. Although PD 3.1 will hit up to 240w soon enough.
