I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite 2430-S255). It has 3 external USB ports, 2 in the back, one on the side. The two in the back have fallen apart --the plastic part broke off & fell out. Toshiba is reluctant (even under warranty) to fix it because you can't just replace USB ports -- you have to replace the whole motherboard. My question is WHY do they make USB ports so that you can't replace them, especially if they're so delicate that they fall apart from normal use? (I had to plug & unplug my mouse whenever I put the laptop into sleep mode because of an incompatibility between the mouse & the touchpad -- but I wasn't rough with it.)
Also, is the same true on regular motherboards? I've built computers but have never had to deal with this problem.
