USB boot problem

My brother has a HP computer that has done OK for about a year then all of a sudden it wouldn't boot. We finally narrowed it down and discovered that when trying to boot with USB devices (KB and Mouse) attached it would hang soon after the all the bios info and drive info were displayed. We hooked up a PS2 mouse and keyboard and it booted fine. We could even un hook the PS2 stuff after it was running and connect USB KB and mouse and it would still do fine. Running with PS2 isn't an option as his KVM switch is USB. Any ideas on a fix for this USB deal?
Thanks in advance.

Check the BIOS settings regarding Legacy USB support, and the order of booting - it might be set to boot from USB devices, and the KVM is messing with it. Remote, but possible.

Other than that, I'm going to blame it on the HP brand name. 😛
