USB atapter / DHCP / IBM laptop

Hi, all, I met a strange problem:

I have a IBM laptop (T20), if I use wire to connect to my smc wireless router, however, if I use a usb wireless adatper, ipconfig/renew always returns:
The following error occured when renewing adapete Local Area Connection 1: DHCP Server unreacheable

If I do a ipconfig/all:
Ethernet adapter Local Area connection 1:
....
EHCP enabled: yes
auto config enabled: yes
ip address: 0.0.0.0
subnet mask: 0.0.0.0
Defaul gateway:
DHCP server: 255.255.255.255
DNS server:

I know the usb adapter is working, I know it is connected, but why I cannot get an IP?

Thanks lot!

usb wireless adapters are usually very simple and quick to do. sure you have the drivers right? sure you'll finding the router's correct signal and you're within range? sure that the wireless router is properly configured? are both set to use encryption or not use encryption? it's not finding the broadcast at all so it could be something rather simple.

Yes, I am sure, the wireless configuration on both router and USB adapter are correct.
I have 2 desktops @ home, both are using wireless, they all work fine. Also, I have tried 3 different laptops,
(1 ASUS, 2 TOSHIBA), all worked fine. I just don't know why it doesn't work on this one.
