USB and simultaneously accessing network problems (Asus P3B-F)

One of my computers has the Asus p3B-F board and there is a slight glitch that may not be related to the hardware. Whenever I access the network through the 3COM or Webgear LAN NICs, any USB peripheral stops communicating (printers, external USB CDRW, etc). Which means that accessing the net (cable modem) or the network stops the printer or causes the USB CDR burn to hang.

None of the IRQs are shared (3COM NIC - IRQ 9, Webgear LAN - IRQ 3, USB - IRQ 5 shared with SBLIVE, but no probs with sound card). Running WinME upgraded from Win98SE.

Any ideas? Is it because the computer can only either communicate through the USB port or the network exclusively?

Interesting that you have a 3COM NIC also. Perhaps that is the reason (currently looking for another NIC around here to try it out...)
