OK,
We were finally booted into the 20th Century in this particular part of Scotland with the availability of broadband internet since May!!!!

Now I've been on broadband internet in Hong Kong since 1998 and a good deal of other countries in the world too, including the USA.

All of the other ISP's provided modems that offered a choice of USB or standard network connectors to hook up the PC to the network card.

There is nothing wrong with the performance of the USB connection but I notice that as soon as you switch the user accounts that the network connection drops for the account that has been exited.

Is there anyway to keep the network connection alive on the "switched account" when using a USB ADSL connection?

I should clarify that the USB connection does not drop when switching accounts - it does stay online but it drops the "online" connection to the programs running on the original account that was logged into before switching.

It did not do this with the old dial up account as far as I can remember?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah, bin it and get a broadband router/modem. You'll pick one up for not far off £40 these days, and that's with all the firewall as well.

Yeah I have a Microsoft MN500 wireless base station gathering dust here.

Unfortunately due to the connections I can't hook it up - not sure if I can request a regular connector sytle modem from Tiscali (my ISP) or not though?

I'm not normally in the UK though so it is no big deal really.

It's my mums PC and I just have an account set up on it on the rare occasions that I'm back home.

Tiscali should be able to provide a replacement ethernet based router (for a small charge). Alternatively you could get something cheap from broadbandbuyer.co.uk and configure it yourself - that's probably your best bet.
