At first using my modem blaster in the usb onbord ports I couldn't stay more then a few seconds connected to the internet that my mouse started to slow down until all the system freezes. I was using the 9x133 setting in the bios. Nothing seems to work until I tried to change to 12x100 and everything seemed to work then. I was using windows 98 fe.

I decided to reinstall everything in my system, so I bought a pci usb hub to see if I could solve my problems.
What I noticed at first , after installing all the devices ,this time with windows 98 se, ( I disabled the serial ports, lpt1 and onbord usb ports) was that my cold boot problem vanished, and I could do stable connections to the internet using now the 9x133 setting.
But when I try to play some internet games like Unreal Tournament or Starcraft ( I just tried these ones) my connectin drops after a few minutes connected. I tried to go back with the 12x100 settings but when I do that my connection fails immediately after the modem starts to exchange data.
I have the 4.1 drivers installed, usb filter 1.08, microsoft's se usb correction patch.
My system is a Tbird 1.2, 256 mushkin rev2, kt7a- raid, 2 ibm 75 gxp 46 gb ( no raid ), creative geforce gts 64, sound blaster platinum 5.1 ( slot3), pixelview TV (slot4), PCI USB HUB (slot5), nic card (slot6 - disabled).
I already use the enhanced processor option in the bios.

I am sure is some kind of usb conflict or problem related
to this motherboard that seems to appear more clearly when you use external modems ( my sidewinder pro works ok).

Tell me what you think

Well, there have been USB issues associated with the KT/KTA chipset in general, just not on the ABIT alone. I have built and configured quite a few KT7 systems, and a KT7AR, and have had no problem running modems, scanners, or powered hubs from the 2 onboard USB ports. I have not had the need to install a separate PCI USB card.

Perhaps it is a problem with your mobo. If you have done a complete re-install of the OS, and started out with only your video card and drives installed and added your PCI cards/devices/drivers one at a time re-booting and testing each for conflicts, perhaps it is time to RMA the ABIT, or exchange it for another type mobo.

You could try disabling any serial ports that you are not using in the BIOS, (EDIT: I see you have already done this) or disabling SB16 Emulation in Device Manager under Creative.

The only thing that I do differently than most when I setup a VIA chipset system, is to only install the AGP driver, and none of the other 4 in 1's, or any of the MS USB patches. I do this for a living, and people may disagree with my configuration method, but it works for me on any VIA chipset system. They have been the most stable Win98SE/2000 systems I have built. I have compared performance results between installing the 4 in 1's and only the AGP driver, and found no performance difference worth mentioning. I have had more issues (BSOD's/errors) with the 4 in 1's installed compared to the AGP driver (Turbo Mode) alone.

Sorry I can't be of more help, and hope you can get it straightened out, rather than having to go though an RMA/exchange hassle. You may want to go to the ABIT Newsgroup, or try the KT7/KT7A FAQ for more info.

I have 4 USB devices on my KT7A-R: scanner, printer, digital camera and mouse..I haven't got any problems whatsoever on both Win2K and WinME (dual boot).
