If I get a new USB 3.0 external drive, and buy a usb 3.0 controller card, will I see usb 3.0 transfer speeds under windows xp? I have looked all over, and can't seem to find an answer to this question. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

There shouldn't be any speed difference using USB 3.0, when comparing Windows 7 vs. XP, and using the same driver version number.
A PCI USB 3.0 adapter card (vs. PCIe card) could possibly affect the speed somewhat, but that would be independent of which of the 2 Windows versions is installed.

So I should definitely see a speed increase to 3.0 speeds then? Your answer was kind of confusing me... :)

True. There are very few straight USB3 PCI cards - most all are PCIe. The nominal difference is about 30% less for PCI. There are legacy systems running XP that don't have PCIe slots.

You also need XP drivers for the USB 3 card and not all of them have XP drivers that are up to snuff.
