I bought a USB 3.0 wireless adapter but I still have a USB 2.0 cradle. The port on the PC is USB 3.0. If I use the cradle will it degrade the speed?

It will run at 2.0 speeds. 3.0 and 2.0 devices can coexist but the slower devices will limit the bus speed only when they access it. IE if a USB 2.0 HDD is moving data, a 3.0 drive will be slowed down since the bus is busy. However once the 2.0 HDD is done and sits idle, the 3.0 drive will run at USB 3.0 speeds.

PS you might get more responses in hardware since USB isn't networking.

It doesn't matter the results are the same.

If a slower device is working heavily on the bus, the faster devices will be forced to wait. USB is a primary node managing devices and acting as traffic cop. USB 2.0 devices will run at 2.0 speeds during which the 3.0 devices are forced to wait until the 2.0 transactions complete.

If you mean a USB 3.0 device in a 2.0 cradle then it may not work at all depending on the device shape and the location of the USB plug. If it does work, then the USB 3.0 device will be forced to 2.0 any way as the extra pins for 3.0 will be missing.
