USB 2?

I've heard about it and have seen the specifications of how it is supposed to work. What I haven't seen is when it is supposed to becoming out or if its not already out. I am looking into a data switch with USB. I found one that I like, but if USB 2 is close to coming out or coming on strong I'd rather wait on a purchase. If anyone knows of any information or of a good place to get information on this please let me know. Thanks.

go check out www.usb.org They have lots of good info on USB 2.0 and usb in general.. a few of the articles i found on there say some usb 2.0 should be out near the end of this year (haven't seen any yet, myself) and broad deployment of usb2 sometime in 2001. If you decide to wait, youll probably be waiting a decent amount of time. Also, what kind of data switch is it (what do you do with it)

Thanks for the tip on where to go to learn more about this stuff. The switch I was talking about is a data switch. I have several computers. I have a server, a laptop, and a workstation. Right now I have to use 2 keyboards and 3 mice. The switch is a data switch so that I can use one keyboard for all. I was going with the USB switch because the workstation is a Mac. I have Windows 2000 on my server and laptop which also have USB support. I just didn't know if I should wait to buy a switch that has USB 2.0 in it since it is supposed to be backwards compatible. Thanks for your help.

What you are talking about is more generally called a USB hub. Yes, you can wait for USB 2.0 Hub to show up some time next year. And, yes, it is backward compatible. But you will have to pay quite a bit more than the slower USB 1.0 hub. If you intend is to hook up keyboard, mice, etc (slow devices) to the Hub, don't waste your money and don't waste your time waiting.
