USB 2 question about Hub

I'm buying a USB 2 card for my desktop but have a question. I have a device that needs to use the USB 2. The cable that came with it on the USB device is short and one of those that is not normal style cable so cant easily replace.

So I have a USB Hub i got like a year ago, if i connect that the USB 2 card, will it act as a USB 1 or 2 or it doesnt matter? Or i actually have to buy one that says USB 2. I know USB cables dont matter as long as they are Version 2 they support USB 1 and 2.

If your USB hub does not support USB2 then any USB 2 devices plugged into it will switch to USB 1 mode.

Can't you just get a longer cable - I've never seen a 'non-standard' cable, but there are several types of cable: A-B (the normal type, with a PC connector and a long square one), A-A (PC style connectors on both ends), A-MiniB (Tiny connector on the far end, for cameras and MP3 players).

I think there are two A to MiniB connectors. My old Kodak camera had a different MiniB connector than my Olympus C740 does. One is square with a rounded top and the other is kinda rectangular shaped.

I know there are two kinds of mini-B connectors - I have a digital camera, and an external laptop drive enclosure. Both have Mini-USB B connectors, but they are not the same shape.

You can just buy an extension cable, like this. Check Froogle for low prices on USB Extension cables. In my experience, they need not say "USB 2.0 cable" - I've used a "Certified USB 2.0 cable" and then a generic thing that came with some peripheral back before USB 2.0 existed. I tested them both on an external hard drive, and ran benchmarks with each. The difference was less than 1%, with the generic thing actually in the lead.

OK So HUBS do matter and must be 1, or 2.

about the cable, the cable has the normal USB cable end that goes into the USB port and then the other end is much much smaller, the size they use in digital cameras.

also the cable has a power controller? thats what i think it is, about half inch circular item attached to the cable?
