Two weeks ago I bought an MSI K8T Neo2-FIR Socket939 motherboard, and I have been noticing with my 1GB Lexar JumpDrive (as well as with a brand new 200GB external HDD I just purchased today) that every time I connected a USB 2.0 device, Windows (XP Pro) popped up the balloon saying "This device can perform faster: This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port."
I resolved the issue after discussing it with another tech/friend of mine, and he said he had the same problem with a Gigabyte KT400 board he used to have where all his USB ports became USB 1.1 ports whenever he had the front USB ports for his chassis plugged in to the motherboard's USB headers. I unplugged my case's front USB leads from the motherboard, and whaddya know, now the built-in ports all run Hi-Speed USB2.0 now.
Does anyone know why this happens? Do all VIA chipsets have this problem? Is there a fix for it?
