USB 2.0 Ports failing? Need help/Advice

I have been having some weird USB 2.0 port issues over the past 6 months. I need some advice and help on where to go next.

I run an ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard with an i5-2500k. It has roughly 6 usb 2.0 ports and two usb 3.0 ports in the back. For some strange reason, the usb 2.0 ports do not seem to be recognized by most devices I plug in. I really have no clue what is going on here.

The strange thing is my old logitech mx518 usb mouse works fine in the usb 2.0 ports but, the newer logitech G403 and zowie EC1-A mouse will not. It seems like it may be a power issue or something of that sort but I dont understand how my logitech mx518 mouse will work fine but, my printer, ipod, newer devices do not work. What is going on here?

I have since completely reformatted windows on my boot hdd, flashed latest bios version on mobo, reset cmos jumpers on mobo, took battery out, reset factory optimized defaults in bios, and nothing has had any effect at all. What should I do next? Right now I can basically only utilize the two usb 3.0 ports... Kind of annoying..

The same thing happened about a month ago to my youngest son's computer. The issues just became worse, and I ended up having to replace his motherboard and CPU (due to the age of the components).

The only thing I can suggest if you want to keep trying to use the motherboard, is to buy an add-in USB card (or an externally powered USB hub).

However, if it's anything like my son's motherboard, you will get all sorts of weird issues/crashes that will likely move you to replace it. If yours ends up working outside of just the USB ports, consider yourself lucky.
