I am plugging my Dell 2005FPW monitor into the USB 2.0 slots (it's supposed to function as a 2.0 hub) and then plug in my IDE-turn-external 2.0 hard drive into the monitor and get the message that "this devide could perform faster". Nowhere in the device manager does it say that my USB ports are 2.0. A bit of help is needed...

What operating system are you using (and with what service pack)? I believe only Win XP SP1 and above can use USB 2.0 devices.

Did you install SP2 before the mobo drivers (which contain the USB 2.0 drivers)? Yes = good. Also confirm in your BIOS that the USB controllers are set for 2.0 HiSpeed and not FullSpeed.

I had the same problem with my P4P800-e Deluxe.
Uh, here's a quote from another thread. I was helping somebody else with the same problem.

I had this problem earlier. Here's what I did:

-Control Panel
-System
-Hardware tab: Device Manager
-USB Controllers <Expand>

There should be one marked with a (!) or a (*) next to it. That's what it was for me. Click that one and:

-Disable
-Enable

That made it work for me. Don't ask why ;).

Nope. How could I remedy that? Just get the newest drivers off ASUS' site?

Will try that as well. On a matter of things working for who knows what reason, My eBay wasn't working yesterday at all for me, along with my college's remote access e-mail. After installing (but not running!) MS Spyware removal tool, everything worked. Weird.

Follow what P Guy said except delete the all of the USB devices and reboot. Windows should reinstall the correct drivers. Many people have had this problem and that's all they had to do.

You know what, this is a bigger problem that I thought it was. Something is definately wrong with some asus board.
I have an older model asus p4b533-e and I have the same exact problem. Read my other post about this problem.
I tried everything possible even reinstalling windows and still cant get it to work. Only my sandisk flash disk is recognized as usb2.0 and all other usb device I have, including 2 external usb drives connect as USB1.1
Bought me a pci usb2.0 card and it work like magic.

There are no devices with an asterisk.

Are you all installing Service Pack 2 before you install the NVidia chipset drivers? If not, download the full package and burn it to CD now, or slipstream with your original XP and burn that to a new CD.

I wish I knew how to do it...explain that last part for me, would you? I installed the SP2 after the drivers. The drivers were the first thing to be installed.

This article explains slipstreaming well.

Install Windows, install SP2, then reboot and install the drivers next.
Oh, no...can't do that now, wiping it clean would be a disaster at this point. Guess that PCI card would have to suffice.
