:(

Hi all. This is one of my first few posts. Thanks!

I have a laptop with a SIS chip in it i presume. When i was using it the other day
suddenly my USB devices seem to all stop working at the same time. I restarted
my com and since then, nothing has been able to work at Hi-Speed.

I checked it up and basically, everything works fine but when i give winXP the
USB 2.0 driver as supplied by my manufacturer [Averatec] so that i can use
the devices as USB 2.0 Hi Speed, it shows up as unknown device. All my devices
show up except for my mouse. My mouse shows up and works fine.
Can anyone help me ?

I'm trying to use 2 External Hd-drives that work fine on other computers too and
a 4 port USB Hub and a Logitech 2 buton wheel mouse. Any ideas to help ???

Right now the USB Host Controller is disabled in my control panel but it still works
because there are 3 other host controllers (SiS 7001 USB Open Host Controller)

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

Try booting into safe mode. Reboot and hit f8 every second. Go into your device manager and uninstall everything relating to USB. Also make sure all usb devices are not plugged in. Reboot it should replug and play every usb thing. Then reboot again and plug in your devices. See if that helps. If not try and google search the controller for a driver. Or visit the manufacturer of the laptop to get the driver. Also if your not using service pack 2 that might fix it.

I tried the safe mode thing and that didn't work. It just reinstalled everything and when i plugged in my
devices it said "Unknown Device" for all three except my Mouse that is USB 1.1 i think.

I searched on google and apparently the drivers are available from manufacturer. When i get the drivers
from manufacturer (Averatec), it causes all my devices to be unknown devices again.

I'm not using SP 2.

The Tech support at Averat*ch is just stupid. they read to me out of a book and I don't want to flame
them but when I call tech support, i expect answers - not "I don't know what to do about that."

HELP!!!! :-(

No I haven't fixed it. But i have determined that it is a
USB 2.0 chip fault. I assume it is possible that the chip fried itself
when i tried to access two external 2.0 harddrives at the same time as well as
a third usb 2.0 compact flash card. + Mouse using same hub as the CF card.

I decided to RMA it. After extensive arguing with those t*rds at Averatec
they decided to give me an RMA [ 48 hrs and 20 calls later ].

Thanks for the help tho

P.S. it is not the registry fix that i need cos i already did that and it still didn't work.

cheers to all!
