Im looking for a USB 2.0 flash drive with the highest possible read rate. Don't care at all about write rate and at least 2GB.

I use it to load ESXi.

Would getting a USB 3.0 be better?

USB 3 drives are more likely to have better read and write rates, even if they are limited to USB2 speeds, but it varies from drive to drive.

I bought a Lexar 16GB USB3 drive and although it is great for large continuous files, small file and 4k performance is still nearly as slow as a hard drive.

Bought the second one :) Lets hope the speed boost is sort worth it.

BTW, the best way to clone ESXi would be CloneDrive right? Or should I dd it?
