Hey all,
I'm not a n00b when it comes to fixing computers, but this problem has me stumped. I'm stumped because I don't want to fix the problem by re-installing windows... but, it looks like I might have to. Anyways, down to the problem:
When I connect my Creative Zen Micro, a USB 2.0 compliant MP3 player, to my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939).. I get a little USB icon down in the task bar which says this:
The Creative Zen Micro is a HI-SPEED USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port
--------------------------------
The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device.
-OE Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
-OE USB Root Hub (8 ports)
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
-OE Unused Port
Recommendation
Disconnect the Creative Zen Micro from its current port and then connect it to one of the ports on a hub shown in bold type.
Here's what the USB devices in my device manager look like:
- -OE Universal Serial Bus Controllers
-OE Creative Zen Micro
-OE Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
-OE Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
-OE Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
-OE USB Root Hub
-OE USB Root Hub
-OE USB Root Hub
-OE is the USB Icon..
Ok. So, here's the low-down. I have repaired Windows on this computer.. the OS was installed previously on another motherboard and I transferred the harddrive to this newer motherboard. Here are the things that I have done as an attempted remedy:
1. I installed the motherboard drivers ... which included the USB 2.0 drivers and I've tried EVERY USB port on the motherboard with no results! My MP3's still transfer at USB v1.1 speeds.
2. I've also checked all BIOS settings to make sure that USB 2.0 is enabled and that USB Legacy support is disabled.
3. I reverted back to Windows XP SP1
So, is there anything I can do that you guys know about besides reinstalling Windows?
UPDATE:
I went to circuit city and got a PCI USB 2.0 card and installed it ... and guess what? It STILL transfers at USB 1.1. *confused*
