hi,
my laptop (based on arima w622 http://www.arima.com.tw/ViewProduct.asp?View=138 ) had this problem since the beginning, but it didn't bother me much till i got an external hdd. here's the thing: when i plug in a usb 2.0 device into any of the slots, it works perfectly for a while, but then i hear that 'usb device unplugged' sound, followed by 'usb device plugged in' sound. after that, the transfer speeds become miserable, which is why i assume it switches to usb 1.1. i'm using win xp pro sp2 and latest ati drivers for the southbridge (this is the way it looks like in device manager: http://public.fotki.com/seminolas/usb-problem/devicemanager.html
can someone help me out please? it is really irritating, as i can't even watch dvd video properly with that speed...

I'm sorry to say, I think the problem lays with the SB400 chip that implements your USB ports. There have been many documented cases of the SB400 not supporting USB 2.0 properly. The only thing I can suggest is making sure you have the latest BIOS. Good luck.

thats another thing - i bought it from a small company, no support from there, and arima page doesn't seem to have any newer bios'es either. is there any larger manufacturer that took this arima laptop as a base for it's product? maybe they would have some better bios then...
