USB 2.0 Cardbus card not working on Win 2K laptop

Well I had this probem on one of my machines, both of them are laptops with Win 2k. I got this USB 2.0 Card , i know its a cheapo card but it installed okay and is working fine on one of the machines (IBM laptop), but i cannot get it to work on the Compaq laptop, i plug it in and the computer immediately shuts down, If i start the computer with the card plugged in, it reaches the stage whre it is loading the OS and then it suddenly shuts down.

The first time I loaded it on the Compaq machine it recognized the hardware and I installed the Mfg supplied drivers but as soon as I plugged in my External HD it crashed. Do I need to get any special drivers? The one page manual that came with the card says that win 2k already has the Open host controller support for this to work and I only need to install the NEC drivers that they have supplied and it should work fine.

I thought this could be because I did not have SP4, so I installed it and it made no difference, in fact I can't even get to the screen where I can view the bios by pressing F8 as I read that that is where I need to enable "High Speed USB" under USB configuration, althought i did not have to do this on my other machine.

Has anyone had any issues with setting up a USB 2.0 cardbus/pcmcia card? Does this problem sound familiar? Please post any solution to get over this if you guys know.

Install the latest service pack. Windows XP requires service pack 1 in order for USB 2.0 to enabled.
