USB 1,2 questions

Many USB devices don't work well on hubs. Cameras, scanners and especially USB drives are known to have problems with hub connectivity..
How often does this happen? I'm hoping to connect a printer and scanner to a USB hub.

Do USB 1.1 cables work with USB 2.0 devices?
Ideally, yes. USB 2.0 architecture uses the same cables and connectors as USB 1.1 compliant products. Unforunately, only 3 out of 11 cables on the market are certified as USB 1.1 compliant. You may run into the cables that cause problems connecting high-speed peripherals.
.
What are they trying to say about the 3 out of 11 deal. I have a 15ft cable that's either USB 1 or 1.1. So it may or may not work with USB2 at USB 2 speeds? And how can I tell if my cable is 1 or 1.1?

The problem with USB hubs is that most of them aren't powered, and most USB ports found on motherboards aren't meant to simultaneously power 4 or 5 devices at once. If you get a powered hub, you shouldn't experience any problems.

As for the cables? My best answer is just to try it and find out.
