USB 1.1 vs USB 2.0 Speed Comparison?

Does anyone have a link (to AT or anywhere else) that has some real life tests on USB 1.1 speeds vs USB 2.0 speeds? We are getting some External USB hard drives for laptops at work but some older model laptops have USB 1.1. I'm looking for anything that is real tests (not compariing the theoretical speeds).

The original resposne from the ordering people is "As long as it works, don't buy extra equipment". However whne a USB 2 add-in card can transfer a Gig in like 5 minutes and a 1.1 port would take over half an hour or so.... That's the kind of information I'm looking for.

Thanks.

I've used an external USB 2.0 hard drive on both 1.1 and 2.0 systems, and it's a HUGE difference. I don't have any numbers, but it was rediculously slow on the 1.1 system...

You might try doing some calculations to figure out how much time is lost in business hours when people wait for data to transfer, multiplied by amount paid per hour, and show them how much $$$ is lost by the 1.1 users over a month or so. Might not be too big a deal, but ya never know.

See, I can tell them all I want that 1.1 is real slow and 2.0 is real fast. But that doesn't help.

Gunbuster - how big is the image, how many hours, etc.
Cheetah8799 - That's exactly what I want to do is calculate the lost time but I need the numebrs before I can do that.

I guess I can wait until I actually get the external drive since they have to order them and then do the comparison tests but I was hoping someone somewhere would have already done those same tests so I could just forward the info to the people here doing the ordering.

Ah well.

If I could say that a 1 gig file takes 5 minutes to transfer on USB 2 and takes 35 minutes on USB 1.1, then I could do some calculations and such from that but I don't know that those are good numbers since I just made them up.

There are revies, but maybe just not exactly the type of review/comparison you want. Try looking at some of the USB Flash drive reviews and see what they do for speeds. Or find some reviews on a 2.0 drive, and old reviews for a 1.1 drive, and take bits and pieces of data from each to get a general idea.

1.1 is basically worthless.
i think 1.1 is 11megabits, while 2.0 is 480megabits...

not even close.. the 2.0 is the only reasonable choice for speed... the 1.1 is just painfully slow.
