Well, two blows to my homegrown Wireless LAN today. I found out that despite the reviews, the ECS KN1 Extreme mobo doesn't come with the WiFi USB adapter unless it's a special order or some-such. The second was my 'discovery' of a USB Wireless Adapter by Linksys.

Unfortunately, it's only for USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 which wouldn't be a problem with a new PC but I went for the USB route to bypass the need to install a card since the old PC is full.

Is there another way?

I know there's a 802.11b capable device, but really, the jump from 11 to 54Mbps is too much to give up. Especially considering how slow the old PC is.

I don't think you can drive an 802.11g adapter (at the higher speeds) with a slower USB version than 2.0. Or am I missing the point?

First of all, anything USB requires drivers to be loaded to operate. Secondly, if you don't have USB 2.0, you can use that adapter but your not going to get the higher speed because of your slower USB speeds.

Well USB1.1 is capable to push about 11Mb/sec.

802.11g is rated 54Mb/sec. Any one who could push 54Mb/sec. through 11Mb/sec. has a Noble price in his pocket.
