Usable locations for thermal sensors to be attached

 The user manual might as well have been left out of the package, it says so little. I have a new thermal monitor panel with two sensor leads.

The panel is so generic, that it has no manufacturer name anywhere on it. The tiny, six page "manual" has no brand name anywhere. Do I want a sensor between the cpu and hsf base? And the second one goes where for maximum utility? How do I lock the second one down so it stays in place?

😕

I use one for video temp (my 9600 doesnt have one built in), one for memory and one for ambient case temp.

I use a dab of thermal goop and jam the probe in the hs fins as close to the center as possible. Then I use a (very) small piece of tape or cotten to keep it in place and prevent fresh air from hitting it, hopefully it reads the hs temp instead of some combo of air/hs temp.

Other uses are ambient case temp, HD temps, CPU hs temp, power supply temp.

The thermal pastes I've used were fairly sticky, but not able to create what I'd consider a long-term bond. I really didn't mean to interpose the tip of the sensor lead onto the cpu, more like nestled up close to the side of the core. I want to let the thermal panel turn on and off some extra fans beyond the main hsf, psu fans, and perhaps one exhaust fan, when the temps reach various trigger points.

It's a Broadway Computer Case model that Newegg had on sale recently, in an attractive dark blue color, with a side panel window. There's an intake fan on the window, above the video card's location, and a blowhole in front of the psu, plus the "usual" pair of rear panel exhaust mounts, and twin front intake mounts. I have never used one of these panels on any previous PC, but I also have tended to just pay the cost of the faster cpu instead of any OC-settings.

This time I want to push the system pretty hard, and give it beaucoup air flow at need, but much lesser noise and air motion when it's running at cooler temps. So, is the GPU a good spot? Where on it? Near the base of the GPU heat sink? It's a Radeon Pro 9700.

I have an alarm on the 9600 temp sensor set at 115 F. The probe is near the back (mobo) side stuck (with a dap of thermal goop) to an inner fin close to the base and a very small chunk of paper to wedge it there and shield if from the airflow. Hopefully the wedge of paper keeps the fan air off the probe so it measures the hs temp instead of air temp.

I also tried the back of the vid card under the GPU but it never ran the fan up to high speed with its thermal probe there.
