As far as schedule goes the team with the easiest path is WVU.

Go Buckeyes!!! I hope this list is true. USC needs to bite the dust for me to be happy. That being said. Go Notre Dame!!!

I'm an ND grad and love ND football but even I think the 3rd place ranking is too optimistic.

Oh give me a BREAK, Notre Dame is leaps and bounds better than USC now, that's an insult to have them tied in the pre-season rankings. I can't wait for them to break the tie when they whip em up in Cali.

I do agree that notre dame is better than USC, but neither of them should be ranked as high as they are. Notre dame is overrated every goddamn year, and its starting to piss me off. Everyone thought they were hot ****** last year until they got anally raped by OSU, but they sucked. Their schedule was weak as hell. The best thing they had going for them was that they only lost to USC by a few points. Other than that, they lost to michigan state for christ sake.

They came closer to beating "the unbeatable team" then anyone else during the regular season. Quinn was throwing the ball all over the place and breaking records left and right. They WERE hot ****** last year, and could have gone to the Rose Bowl if not for Reggie's push at the end. I think you're very biased against ND like many people are, they were an EXPLOSIVE team last year with a sub-par defense (uh, USC anyone?) And DO deserve a ranking like this, they made it to a BCS game and lost to the #1 team in these pre-rankings. MSU beat them in OT, they didn't thoroughly destroy them or anything, even USC had trouble with teams like Fresno St. and UCLA.

Bottom-line, good teams lost good players but they didn't lose their key guys so of course they're going to be ranked pretty high after the season they had. Watch out for West Virginia this year though, Slaton is going to be the next Adrian Peterson.

my whole point is that both USC and ND were overrated. Neither team had a defense. The only reason USC did so well was because they didnt play any teams that actually had a good defense to stop them from scoring. Had they played any of the good big 10 teams, they would have gotten worked. God.. that month before the rose bowl made me want to vomit with all the hype. The highlight of my year is definitly watching vince young ****** all over USC's defense and hearing Jim Rome cry like a b!tch when USC lost.

It's very weird seeing Cal nationally ranked preseason.

By rights, Cal should be a bad team, a punching bag for the good football schools, with only one thing that matters and defines whether it's a good or bad year: beating Stanford.

As a Cal alum and fan I'm not complaining, but it just doesn't seem right.

Worked by the Big 10 teams? I wouldn't go that far. I'd have given OSU or maybe Wisconsin a shot, but I doubt either would have worked them over.

uhh, usc may have had a weak defense but they didnt loose to texas bcoz of them playing weaker defenses in the regular season, they put over 560 yards on a texas defense which was considered good, they lost to a man who had a superhuman performance that is all. it was a shootout and they cudnt make the stops at the end,

Notre Dame will always make a BCS game if they get 9 wins and qualify, cause Notre Dame means big TV ratings.

And you really think Notre Dame could have made the Rose Bowl over USC had they beaten them? Wow....

What's so "Wow...." about that theory?

That same day PSU lost (5 minutes later, ugh) and ND would've become the only other undefeated team with a chance at the Rose Bowl. So at the end of the season (assuming both teams won out after that) what's so hard to understand that ND wouldn't get in?

Sure ND is the darling child of NCAAFB when they're good, but that wouldn't have anything to do with them getting in this instance. Even if they ended up losing to Mich St. that would still be USC and them with one loss and in this case they beat USC, how could they not get in at that point?

Please, talk is cheap. Almost beat USC. Yeah, but you DIDN'T. Come back when you've won a freakin bowl game. Thirteen years and counting since the last one!

Except that ND lost to Michigan State earlier in the season, so they wouldn't have been undefeated.

I have a feeling that the University at Buffalo will upset Auburn. I am completely, scandalously biased though.

USC blew UCLA (who, apparently had the 4th best record last year) out of the water last year. I remember, it was a sad day =/
