Most (but not all) of these are based on total numbers and not per capita numbers. Really this just comes down to the US being the largest Western country in the world.
 
Why is creating 89% of the world's pornography a bad thing? The author has several points which directly relate to America's growing national debt and trade imbalance; it seems that the US being responsible for manufacturing 89% of all products in a popular industry would be a good thing to help counter that. Is it solely because pornography is "immoral" that it made this list? Asinine.
 
I've always heard that Polynesian countries have more obese people than the US and that we're only couple points above Germany/England
 
Some of these might be effects, rather than causes. For example:

US has the largest prison population. Is that because US citizens are criminals, or US law enforcement is more efficient that everywhere else in the world?

US has the most number of reported rapes. Is it because US has more rapists, or because women in the US feel more secure about reporting rapes?

US has more car thefts than anywhere else in the world. Is it because US citizens are car thieves, or because US citizens have more cars than anybody else in the world?

US citizens watch more TV. Maybe because US has the best TV programming?

... anyway, you get my point...
 
The US has the most complicated tax code? How the heck did they come to that conclusion?
 
We have the third largest population in the world and by far the largest population among developed countries. It would make much more sense to look at things from a per-capita (or by GDP) perspective.

Part of being a developed country means that there is less corruption, more honest reporting of statistics / transparency and people are not as afraid to report crime.

Also, why are these bad (other than from a financial standpoint)?

In our defense... poor brits.. their TV sucks... bad enough watching U.S. tv.

Most reported rapes... well most ladies here that get raped don't get mutilated and burned afterward so they report it. not so much in other countries.

89% of porn... at least it is not tubgirl or tentacle porn.

Agree with you for the most part. However, I have no problem with tax dollars being used to counter every military move Red China makes. Red China is not an allie and of the United States. I dont care what people say in public.

It's a nation where little kids can buy violent video games, but not magazines if they show titties and vjs in spite of our leading the world for porn production. What a country!

Or how many of those people incarcerated, or the prisons they are held in, or the police that arrested them ...hmmm, me thinks there be a trend going on here with at least four of those number 1 slots.
 
You realize the U.S. is the biggest manufacturer in the world in terms of units/dollars and it's not even close, right?
