US Xbox 360 work in Europe?

I know there is a difference between standards used in Europe vs. US (PAL vs. NTSC), but does that still apply with HDTV? Will I be able to hook my US Xbox 360 up with a HDTV from Germany/Austria? The reason I ask is that it looks more and more likely that my wife and I will be moving to Austria. Just checking if I need to get a new Xbox once I am over there...or will I be able to use mine over there (after getting a new power adapter). I know this is Xbox related...but it seemed more appropriate in the home theater section since it had more to do with the connections than the actual device.

Thanks for any help!

It's the same HDMI cable and signal everywhere.

For that matter, all European TVs have supported NTSC for the last decade or so. It's only the other way around that doesn't work.

Are the games region coded? If they are it's kind of a catch 22, you'll have to buy a new console to play new games you'll purchase in Austria, but if you buy a new console all the games you've purchased in the US won't work.

That is something to be mindful of, but there's no point in buying a new console. He should just order any new games from US. Some individual 360 games are region free as well, so they can be bought from wherever and played on his console.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinking it just isn't worth bringing. I can just buy a new one over there. I only play a couple of games (with friends online), so I'm not too worried about bringing my whole library over there.

haha...I already have two german cars...and likely one of them will be sold today. We will see what I pick up (if anything) when I move over there. We will be living in downtown Vienna and I'm not sure I really need a car.

Phaeton :whiste:

You probably don't need a car, public transit is viable in Europe.

I'll be missing my M3 big time...especially with the speed limits just over the boarder in Germany. We'll see, might pick up something fun. It is kind of a catch 22. The roads over there are great and the speed limits are awesome in Germany...but the same cars are way more expensive. I was pricing a Golf R the other day...and you're talking about 45K Euros for the same car you get around $35K over here. Used cars are proportionally more as well. And then you have gas prices that will bleed you dry...

So, rent when you have the itch.

That's what I'm thinking. Sixt usually is pretty good with renting decent automobiles when you want. There is also the possibility that I can talk the company into a company car if they ask me to start driving to projects that are relatively local....so I don't want to jump on buying anything.

I think US tvs use NTSC to display stuff and Europe USES PAL for its tvs. There may be incompatibles so contact Microsoft before you go over there!
