Take all our troops out of Europe first. These people in Europe keep criticizing us but they cant even protect themselves, so hang them out to dry, till they beg for our help and then make them fork over a few trillion$ up front. If they want us to protect them then they dont get to place any tariffs or restrictions for USA trade goods. Let Europe Burn, because they are too lazy and too greedy to pay for a proper defense with their own money.

if Germany does not even spend 2% of their annual revenue on defense, then they do not need our help. They will be destroyed if Putin attacks them. They should be spending about 5%-10% of their annual revenue on defense. They get what they deserve in the end. If we keep protecting them, then we are at a trade disadvantage with all of Europe because of our defense spending.

Isolationism was a bad idea in the 30's and 40's and hasn't gotten any smarter since.

And being the world's mall cop was a bad idea in 1946 and it hasn't gotten any smarter since. We need to find some sort of pragmatic middle ground between the mistakes of the pre-WWII head-in-the-sand isolation and the current mistakes of a finger-in-every pie, "don't worry about your own defense, we'll do it for you" Gladys Kravitz busybody-ism. We can't abandon our allies and our own interests, but we need to get a hell of a lot smarter about how, when, where and why we intervene.

Germany is only allowed to have 370,000 personnel in their military, with a maximum of 345,000 in the Army and Air Force per the Reunification Treaty that was signed in 1991. I am sure they would spend more on their military if they were permitted to, but if they did they would be violating a treaty that could result in actions taken against them. Unless you are advocating them breaking a treaty they would just be spending money on weapons that would just sit unused and left to rust, kind of like how we do things here in the States with our numerous plane and tank graveyards made up of equipment that will never be used and was bought just to placate the greed of the M.I.C.

Since Europe was mentioned briefly in the thread it's possible the Russians could roll over the American troops stationed in Germany in a conventional war. That's one theory. So the U.S. forces would have to depend on missiles to stop them according to more theories. But conventional warheads may not be enough so it may have to be tactical nukes to scare or stop the Russian military from swarming over Europe. But that would probably lead to a full scale nuclear war which of course is a theory that's been around for decades.

As far as South Korea I guess U.S. troops could pull out and if the South Korean army had any serious problems defending against a conventional attack by the North then U.S. warships and subs could bomb the invaders. But who knows if conventional bombs would be enough to thwart them.
