Hall said the recent fine is almost more than he has ever made in swimming. Since February, he has collected $1,250 a month or $7,500 in all, from a United State Olympic Committee fund that goes to athletes who qualify.

According to the notification, Hall did not wear ??approved apparel? for the U.S. team at the Athens Games. Speedo outfits the American team.

even though he did it to promote his own private sponsor (everlast), I think this is bs. It's all just more commercialization of the olympics, which is already out of control.

"At the 1998 World Championship in Perth, Australia, he said he was fined $10,000 for wearing a wig for the official team picture."

Oh noes a whig! It's too bad he did so much damage by wearing that robe though.

This has nothing to do with Gary Halls Jr, but in NASCAR when drivers get fined for knocking Powerade bottles off the roof of their car in victory lane because it contrasts against one of their own sponsors... can't promote who gives the drivers money to keep racing, have to promote the series sponsors...

I don't see what's the big deal. If i wear a tank top or facial piercing to work, i'll get fired.

Exactly who fined him?

Maybe I didn't catch it in the article, but who has the power to fine him for not wearing certain clothes?

As per the article:
"Gary Halls Jr?s red-white-and-blue boxing robe will cost him a $5,000 fine for a violation of USA Swimming?s dress code"

"The outspoken Hall, who was at odds with U.S. men?s coach Eddie Reese for excluding him from the final four on the 400 freestyle, has been fined before by USA Swimming."
May want to read here, instead of the above mentioned article.

I think the $5000 fine is a little much. However,He did know the rules and chose to break them.

I remember seeing him wear it last year at Pan-Am Games.
He was a big show off, and then didn't win the 50 fr. But he made up for it this year.

He's got some great training suits too. A purple velvet one with a big white star over the crotch, it's hilarious. I wish I had one.

Like he gives a sh!t if he is fined or not. He makes more than enough money to make up for it.

What a ridiculous reaction. Any power a corporation has, it has by voluntary contract.

It's not you. He's an arrogant ass. Looks like a frat boy too.

Anyhow, this is ridiculous.

It's a robe that features stars and stripes. He's not wearing a flag, and the robe doesn't have an actual flag anywhere on it.

I like Hall. Phelps is a nice a guy, but Hall is a showman. He's very fun to watch. He'd be a douche if he was getting his ass kicked. But his body cashes the checks his mouth writes. Like Mohammad Ali once said..."It ain't braggin' if it's true."

Every team has its showy hot shots and its modest high performers.
