US State Dept to reveal declassified US intelligence findings that suggest RT is fully integrated into Russia’s intelligence operations

As I see it mind manipulation is how capitalists make profits. Any real efforts to teach people to think for themselves were they to succeed would destroy billions of dollars of useless product sales. It is vital to the economy that people be fed the notion that they have endless needs for the latest greatest products not only to keep up social appearances but to find real happiness. People need to feel they are in control of their destinies and that they are not being programmed or manipulated in any way. This means that we need a society full of big egos, self certainty and the notion we have the good sense to determine our destiny.

The fact that an enemy nation can play on this trained ignorant gullibility is just an unfortunate side effect. What we need, if the fear we are being manipulated in ways that would harm us is some sort of subterfuge, some invented program that proclaims that it is seriously going to fix this problem because a thinking public would be disastrous not only to the economy but every phony source of authority.

Conspiracy hat on. But how much interference did US and other western nations do during the Cold War? Like this is their excuse for their foreign interference program.
 
As state owned and funded from day one, RT was by default part of Russia intel operations and anyone with a half a brain knew what they were getting.

More concerning are US RW news outlets like Fox that serves as a main news source to their gullible viewers and where they are often fed false or misleading stories or conspiracies sourced from the Russians. Fox doesnt mind if it helps Trump in some way or stirs up repub opposition to Bidens support for Ukraine.

Look up Radio Free Europe ~ the influencing was quite public, as there was no anonymous internet to hide behind, and a handful of deep cover spies certainly can't move the dial on broader public opinion without a megaphone like Russia's social media battalions can.

And yes, Russia literally employs battalion-sized forces solely to disrupt and influence foreign countries in media in ways favorable to the Kremlin (which is mostly aggravating and magnifying internal divisions in Western countries, primarily along ethnic, racial, and immigrant attack lines, and in last few years also heavily pushing anti-Ukraine propaganda across the globe including Asia)
