On a train, with 550 passengers, bound from Amsterdam to Paris, unarmed US Marines confronted and captured a Moroccan Terrorist armed with an AK-47, 9 magazines, an automatic pistol, and several knives.

From the Mirror:
Two US Marines heroically stopped hundreds of train passengers being killed after they heard the distinctive sound of the gunman’s AK-47 being loaded.

The servicemen - possibly attached to a US embassy - listened as they heard the automatic assault rifle being breeched in the toilet of the packed train.

As the would-be killer made his way out of the bathroom the two marines ambushed the gunman bringing him to the ground.

In the fracas one of the soldiers was shot while the other was stabbed.

One of the Marines - who were all unarmed and off duty - was left in a critical condition.
Compliments to the young Marines. Trust that they will recover quickly from their wounds.

Anthony Sadler, Aleck Sharlatos and Chris Norman
NBC News is now identifying the three Americans involved. Unlike earlier reports, they are identified as an Airman, a National Guardsman, and a college student.

From the Telegraph:
Mr Skarlatos returned to car 12, where it all started, cleared the weapons and put them in a pile.

He told Sky News: "I noticed when I removed the round in the chamber of the AK that the primer had been struck, which means he pulled the trigger on the AK.

"The primer was just faulty, so the gun did not go off, luckily, and he did not know how to fix it, which was also very lucky.

"When I cleared the handgun I also noticed that there was no magazine in it - so he had either dropped it accidentally or did not load it properly. He was only able to get what appeared to be one shot off with the handgun."

Sadler, who studies physical therapy at Sacramento State University, told Reuters, "It's my last year in college. I came to see my friends on my first trip in Europe and we stopped a terrorist. It's kind of crazy."

Well done!

That was going to be a horrific mass shooting in Europe, aside from the faulty weapon.

Heard interview they saw him get on train with AK and hand gun and decided to go after him.

My question in open carry states how do passengers tell if open carrier getting on train is a nut looking to take out a lot of people?

I'd bet AM Track doesn't allow open carry on trains.

Even happier about this story now that we know one of the guys was an Airman. Very proud of these guys - they almost certainly saved a lot of lives.

It should be noted that others were involved in taking this wanna-be jihadi down. Spencer, the Airman, would have received a lot more of that Moroccan's knife if it hadn't been for a Brit jumping in to help (and who was also wounded). He said he saw Spencer get it in the neck, and that the Moroccan was about to cut his thumb off as well. Sounds like Spencer was really in war mode - he was the main assault/restrainer for the nut, got cut up, then rushed to tend another responder who got it in the neck worse than he did and was bleeding out. Hats off to you Airman! When you find yourself in the middle of a vicious cock fight, it is good to keep your head on a swivel, no?

I was getting a little irked by all the surrender crap regarding the French. I've always felt the stereotype was unfair, and have French friends who were really into judo, boxing, and starting shit with Russians and gypsies. I had many terms for them, but "pussies" and "cowards" weren't on the list.

But then in that BBC article about Hollande's praise I saw:

--------------------------------

..."I'm really proud of my friend that he just reacted so quickly and so bravely," Anthony Sadler said.

"He was really the first one over there. Even after being injured himself, he went to go help the other man who was bleeding also. Without his help, he would have died.

"That man was bleeding from his neck profusely."

The 554 passengers included French actor Jean-Hugues Anglade, the star of Betty Blue and Nikita, who was lightly wounded breaking glass to sound the alarm.

In an interview with Paris Match magazine, Mr Anglade said train staff entered a private cabin and locked it when they heard gunshots, leaving the passengers alone.

"I thought it was the end, that we were going to die, that he was going to kill us all," he said.

"I really could see us all dying because we were all prisoners in that train, it would have been impossible to escape from that nightmare."

The American men and Mr Norman were awarded medals for bravery by authorities in Arras.
"

------------------------------------

WTF people? What happened to protecting your passengers - was there not a single able bodied man available to at least check on the situation? That's disgraceful.

Also, I don't know about you guys, but it's not often I come across a modern centerfire cartridge that has a bum primer, especially 7.62x39mm. The luck involved in this story is just amazing. If that primer had worked, I'm pretty sure we'd be reading about a train massacre with at least 20-30 dead people involved. With that weapon, at those distances, yikes...it would have been ugly.

My guess is there wasn't any open carry going on (this is Europe after all) at all, one of the guys probably said some like "Look at numbnuts here wearing a trench coat in this heat!" and then the see a barrel or mag flash between folds of clothing as the guy proceeds up stairs or bends over to grab a bag.

Cue the "Let's Roll" level of determination that helps everyone get in their own right mindset to tango.

Doesn't mean people in this country don't get freaked out when they see a trio of nerds walking down the street with ARs on their backs or Glocks on their hips...or both. That's why the cops have to go talk to them and we get all these youtube vids of the encounters.
Sometimes you just have to focus on the person and not be intimidated by their accouterments. Even though I strongly disagree with open carry, I know the average person doing it is no more a deranged nutjob bent on murder for carrying a gun than I am a deranged nutjob bent on stabbing people for carrying a pocketknife.

Doesn't mean he or she isn't an attention seeking, confrontational asshole though. ;)

Hehehe.

I think that opening mosh bit probably describes the beat down perfectly, well done. And yes, true to choice parts in the rest of that track I bet those guys are rockstars over there now and will be subject to all manner and quantities of ravenous European tail for the rest of their stay.

Like, Michael Phelps levels of ass. Maybe Leonardo Decaprio levels of ass, who knows. A fiver says all three limp back to our shores like exhausted sled dogs.

I'm impressed that one of the heroes was shot in the neck and STILL took out the terrorist. Hats off, sir!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled apologists.

Hats off to these men who had more courage than I likely would have had in similar circumstances.

Also, f*** radical Islam.
