US Soccer Gatorade Commercial

Link

Has anybody seen this commercial? It's hard to miss since it's on everywhere. I must say that it gives me chills everytime I see it. I had no idea the hostility these players have to endure. I'm not a soccer fan by any stretch of the imagination and this commercial creates immediate interest in the US Soccer team for me. Bravo Gatorade, bravo.

No worse than any other country gets in most international games. Some players get coins thrown at their faces as they come out of the tunnel/racists chants you name it. It's a very tribal sport, so you get d1cks in the crowd. The on-pitch stuff was pretty tame too. I experienced worse myself.

i have a friend from near glasgow... he said they'd travel to other countries fro friendlies and would get into near riots.

I read somewhere that Italy is really bad. If a black player (home or away team) touches the ball, the crowd starts making gorilla noises.

About the commercial...I love it! I get chills everytime I see the part where the ceiling tiles are shaking.

For the record, due to lack of interest in the US, and a large hispanic diaspora in most US cities, even home games for the US aren't always terribly friendly crowds. I was at a game here in DC where the US played Panama, and sadly, the Panamanian fans were nearly as loud as the US fans because there were so few of us. I can only imagine games against Latin American opponents in cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, etc.

And yes, the commercial brings tears to my eyes, but then I'm also a fanatical fan of US soccer. I board a plane to Germany in 19 days to watch the US take on Italy.

Agreed. It is a well made commercial, that sparks interest in the US soccer team and gives you appreciation for the people who play the game for a lot less money than baseball/football players make and don't get anywhere near the coverage.

Indeed. It just shows you how much passion they have for their sport to have to put up with that.
