This is just a publicity stunt to get the public on board with NASA again.. I'll be damned if the US ever buys Russian Soyuz vehicles..

I have no objection to it. It seems like an interm solution to the problem of having no means to get people to and from the ISS (which is a boondoggle anyway). If I were running the space program I'd have killed the ISS long aog, but if you're comitted to doing it, then this is the only option ATM. I'd be fasttracking t/space's stuff though.

the soyez is a well tested and widely used launch vehicle with a proven track record. it would be a lot cheaper and quicker to buy them from russia than it would be to develop a new launch vehicle.

Sounds like an excellent stopgap measure in between now and ~2015, when they should have the new shuttles and landers running.

You mean the two rusted out hulks that have been sitting in a field for two decades? Refurbishing those will certainly be cheaper than building something new!

The new CAPSULES will be ready in 2011, for ISS use, and t/space promises to have an alternative vehicle flight ready by 2009.

buran is kind of permanently out of order.

why? im sure they could get them back up and running

Sure, and you could also get this car driveable again, but who thinks it'd be cheaper than going and buying a new dodge neon? And who thinks it'd be safer to drive?
