This is technically a repost... But if I remember right the other thread isn't titles as well and easy to identify as this one.

Hence I'm in on a bump.

There's a reason this card is so cheap. It has poor range and a marginal signal. I returned it and now have a Dlink 650+ that works beautifully.

aphexII, there is a deal that was posted today for a netgear WAP for ~<$100 at buy.com. Do a quick search.

As for range, I don't care too much. I have a small apt, and just don't want to deal with ethernet cables everywhere.

I live in a 2 bdr apartment. 20 feet it was ok, 50-70% but it would drop once in a while. In my bedroom it got really bad. I returned it. Also it doesn't seem to like to do WEP with D-Link (my router) or Linksys (according to other users). I had both an Orinoco and Dlink 650+ perform beautifully in my apartment in every room. I would say the USR card is adequate for 20ft or less and WEP is not important.

with wireless PCMCIA cards quality of connection often depends on the angle of the card more than the distance from AP. Im sure if you would turn that laptop around, you'd get better connection
