fight the net

From reading the article above, is this possible or does the Internet have too many safeguards and redundencies which would prevent it?

US digital ambition

And, in a grand finale, the document recommends that the United States should seek the ability to "provide maximum control of the entire electromagnetic spectrum".

US forces should be able to "disrupt or destroy the full spectrum of globally emerging communications systems, sensors, and weapons systems dependent on the electromagnetic spectrum".

Consider that for a moment.

The US military seeks the capability to knock out every telephone, every networked computer, every radar system on the planet.

Are these plans the pipe dreams of self-aggrandising bureaucrats? Or are they real?

The fact that the "Information Operations Roadmap" is approved by the Secretary of Defense suggests that these plans are taken very seriously indeed in the Pentagon.

And that the scale and grandeur of the digital revolution is matched only by the US military's ambitions for it.

Just the thing you would want to do if you wanted to stage a coup. In say, America.

Isn't that what Skynet did?

It's a eal bad idea to do this as once they do it, someone else will. Soon we'll have a WMD(Weapon of Mass Disruption) Race with various countries capable of knocking everything out. Not only that, but what it takes to destroy Communications is far different than say Nuclear Weapons, as NW are extremely difficult for non-Governments to manufacture, but the ability to destroy the Internet/Communications can possibly be done with Software Tools already available.

This also raises a question: How many Virus's, Worms, and other Malware could be made by Government Agencies already? It might not be pimply faced Teens making all these things we keep hearing about, there actually might be a war initiated and fought between Nations in Cyberspace already.

That would make a very good plot to a really bad movie. :D

Hehe, wouldn't be surprised if there's a straight to DVD version already. :D

The government can create futuristic sci-fi type weapons to scare our enemies, but if they want to control their citizens, all they have to do is shut down the power grid.
