This is kinda neat. Was renewing my passport and see you can also get a passport card. So might as well get them both. Having two federal identifications could come in handy if you happen to lose your passport book - leave one of them at home when traveling or keep it safe when you do.

It's only good for border entry and carribean, but still two is better than one. If you already have a passport it's only 20 bucks to get one by mail.

It's not good for international air travel, so it doesn't really do me any good.
2 IDs, just mean more things to lose.

I thought it kind of pointless to have that when it only gets you into Canada and parts of the Caribbean. Especially for 20 bucks.

Michigan has enhanced drivers licenses, lets you go from MI to CA without hassle.

I figured it would be good as a back-up and easier to carry when you get those troublesome W2-G forms. :D

Just was in to get a replacement and I saw it as an option. I didn't even bother asking about it though since they fucked enough up just trying to get the normal DL.

I carry a state ID (Drivers License) and a TSA issued ID (TWIC). I only use the TWIC ID for domestic air travel and for work. The TWIC ID is on the TSA approved list as a valid ID for air travel, even though some screeners have no idea what it is. Sadly enough, most businesses have no idea what the TWIC ID is either, even when they say the accept state or federal IDs for identifcation puproses.

I think the Passport card is pretty cool, but that doesn't mean business, etc will accept it or even know how to use it. also, its one more thing to lose.

They need to make this available for travel to every country. I travel to Asia frequently and would rather have something in my wallet than a book.

Probably won't happen unless all the other countries agree to it. I can't think of a passport from another country that didn't look just like our book.

Plus where/how would they issue your entry/exit stamps?

Stamps are antediluvian. Also, a card can hold a lot more information the person should the person or government deem it necessary.

I'm not going to pretend to know what that word means. But a lot of places don't have the technology you and I are used to.

I know. But they should. I mean, people of similar wealth trade with each other. In other words, rich people are more likely to travel to other rich countries. IMHO, they all should update their system. Hell, Japan offers residency cards for dogs. I think they should be able to upgrade their passport system. Same for Europe. More so considering you do not need a visa to travel to Japan and Western Europe for a limited time.

Yes you do. For Americans and many Westerners, the entry stamp is your visa. For many other countries, you still need visas to visit USA, Canada, Schengen, etc.

I actually like the stamps in my passport. Something to look back on over the years and see the places I visit.
