Hopefully North Korea and Iran will be solved by 2020. I don't see the public supporting a moon exploration effort if there's a war on. Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for it. I just hope it doesn't turn into another ISS.

Interesting ,thanks ICXRa

A little snippet:-

The United States says it plans to establish the first permanent human base on the moon by 2020 at the latest. The space agency NASA has revealed its plans for locating the outpost and for a landing craft that would carry astronauts from the base to explore other regions. VOA's David McAlary reports from Washington.

Must've been all those notes I left in their suggestion box. Nice to know they check the box about once every twenty years!

I wonder how the lunar gravity will effect human bone and muscle structures. We know zero G degrades muscles rapidly, 30% degradation in 5 days, if no exercise is done. Wonder how long the rotations on the lunar station will be.

Isn't the moons gravity about 1/6 of earths?

0.1654 g, according to Wiki. .0123 Earths in mass.

The 30% degradation rate comes from tests done by the Soviets and their cosmonauts in the 70s and 80s. Learned it in a documentary, PBSs Quest for Life.

Had no idea muscles/bones would degrade that quickly!:Q

Thats with no exercise at all. The Cosmonaut couldn't even walk under his own power. In response to that test, a regimen of exercises was developed to help stave off the degradation. Later tests proved that exercises were effective to a point. Later Cosmonauts, and astronauts, return to Earth in far better shape than the first pioneers.

I just realized last night after watching Discovery launch that they lose 1% of bone mass every 30 days while up in space. Did I hear that correctly?

That is just crazy to me!

And they said this was with regular treadmill exercise with the assistance of bungie cords simulating the resistance.
