"No horses or peacocks" says the headline!

"Transportation department said passengers bringing unusual animals had ‘eroded public trust in legitimate service animals’

The government has decided that when it comes to air travel, only dogs can be service animals, and non-human companions used for emotional support don’t count."

Finally! This was an ongoing joke perpetrated by individuals who obviously are in need of help, just not a companion peacock that should be allowed on a plane.

Although I do harbor a deep sadness that Bitey, my emotional support badger and I, will never see Maui together. :( :( :(

Ha! screw those flea and tick infested dogs. I got a herd of trained lice in my hair as my service animals that I freely share time with my fellow passengers. They keep me and everyone else on the aircraft preoccupied with their friendliness during the flight. I can see in a matter of minutes how everyone who gets visited by my service animals are enjoying the experience by noticing that they are all furiously petting my affectionate critters the whole time we're in the air.

And yes, I do have some time to kill before I clock in at work today.

Good news, which will probably really piss off all the cheap skate Karens out there traveling with their socially anxious rat dogs raised with no discipline.

So that makes it great news I suppose.

It's stupid that people take emotional support animals on the plane with them, but I imagine it happens without incident most of the time. From the airline's perspective, never pass up an opportunity to make a buck, even if the amount is just a rounding error for them.

The new rule will force passengers with emotional-support animals to check them into the cargo hold, and pay a pet fee or leave them at home. The agency estimated airlines will gain up to $59.6m a year in pet fees.

Took them long enough....

So do they need to have the badge and everything certifying that the dog is an actual service dog? Or can someone just "say" that their dog is a service dog.

Finally sanity comes again. Although I do think they should include support monkeys. They seem awesome.

My last flight I had a woman sitting next to me with this poodle in her lap. It licked me the entire time. She kept apologizing but it kept licking me. My arm was soaked by the time the plane landed.

Unless someone is legitimately blind and needs a trained service animal, all animals should be in the cargo hold where they belong. Like it used to be.

As someone born in the same hospital as Obama, You have to find your self importance where you can, I can tell you that there are other barriers to taking a badger to Hawaii.

You were short sleeved and alluringly salty. You can't blame the poodle for indulging in the opportunity . . . over and over and over and over and over again . . . for what was probably an unbroken 2-4 hours. If only that poodle had been part of a pack with a responsible human at its head.

Poodles are really smart dogs. No lie. But any dog needs to be trained, to have boundaries, to know who's Alpha in the relationship. Sadly, there's is a subset of hapless owners drawn to them for emotionally needy reasons.

It's not at all that way with Bitey and me. He's the best emotional support Badger ever! And that's not just because he's the only one, no . . . although, strictly statistically speaking, that may play a role.

Anyway come hell or highwater, we're going to Maui, even if I have to brave the cargo hold and ship us together.

I just hope the airline staff don't badger us. THAT would be . . . ironic.

Fun fact, I know a guy who was is a pilot and was on either the pig or ostrich emotional support animal flight.
He wasn’t the pilot, he was on the plane for a return flight. His option was “hell no” in a pilot kind way. What happens if there is an accident there will be a couple hundred pound animal being thrown around the cabin.

So I guess Stormy Daniels and Donald will have to travel by car? That's after the IRS takes away his airplane for back taxes.

I grew up in a household run by a man, my father, who said he was two hundred percent American and that because he hated everybody. Now I don't really care what kind of support animal might sit next to me in a plane so long as it isn't a person. Those are the ones that belong in the cargo hold.

Official service dogs demonstrate behavior that a non-official dog would, and registered service dogs have documentation. The training regimen for a service dog depends on what the service dog is being trained for. It can be anywhere from 120 hours to a couple of years.

Does anyone care about the newly-unemployed service animals because of this ruling? What are they going to do now?

And what about those highly-skilled humans that specialize in training service peacocks and emotional support hedgehogs? I hope there is a training/subsidy plan set up so that these animals and trainers can find new careers.
