So the cirrocca comment is, "do you think the US is gonna leave the region.. there will be combat troops for years and years to come and the situatiion will be none the better."

That so was not the lesson in Vietnam, as we finally grew a brain and cut our losses.

Why should Afghanistan be any different? Silly Obama, as he somehow thought he could win in Afghanistan using GWB tactics.

We need to leave. Karzai can make whatever deals he wants, but we pull our troops and our money out. He's been screwing us for way too long. Afghanistan would collapse in a week without US troops and money.

Lemon, I was responding to rudders comment that he expects that all US troops are gonna pull out. I was stating that it is a utopian assumption and it is not gonna happen for another 20 years and ultimately the NA and the talibunnies are gonna hate the americans for being there and will kick em out.

What I propose is to have a standoffish capability , not have any combat troops in the country. Maybe some military advisors training the NA/ good Pashtuns.

base US troops from Air craft carriers in the arabian sea. if you want to replenish, go to India for R&R and resupply. Take out any concentration of Taliban forces moving into Afghanistan or against the established govt. The massing of Pashtuns is bound to happen esp when they know the hazaras and tajiks are coming into souther afghanistan to bring some civilization into the villages.

so to clarify. I did not want US troops to be sitting in established bases and be sitting ducks and finally have a inglorious exit. Let me serve proudly on aircraft carriers without much risk.

If you leave, the pashtuns who have been killed will be brain washed by the ISI and the next thing you know those pig fuckers will be exploding a dirty boomb in NYC..

Our presence in Afghanistan does little or nothing to stop terrorist plots around the world when there are a dozen other failed states from which the enemy can operate.

If you're worried about a dirty bomb, you should be worrying about Pakistan or Iran. They have the materials, means and ideology required to make it happen.
