In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

The 14 June date is when Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in The Committee of the Whole. This procedure and the desire for secrecy account for the sparseness of the official journal entries for the day. The record indicates only that Congress undertook to raise ten companies of riflemen, approved an enlistment form for them, and appointed a committee (including Washington and Schuyler) to draft rules and regulations for the government of the army. The delegates' correspondence, diaries, and subsequent actions make it clear that they really did much more. They also accepted responsibility for the existing New England troops and forces requested for the defense of the various points in New York. The former were believed to total 10,000 men; the latter, both New Yorkers and Connecticut men, another 5,000.

She's a grand old flag, is Old Glory. Long may she wave!

I'm keenly aware of all the dark downsides, abuses, and other shortcomings of our country, but I remain deeply grateful to have been born an American, to be a citizen of the United States of America.

Despite my wishes for a civil war in the U.S. I'm grateful for all I have being in a family that's doing well. My dad even served for the well being of this country. He fought in the Marines in WW2 in the Solomon Islands and Okinawa. I was in the U.S Army for 4 years as a surveyor for field artillery in Germany.

More to the topic I have a little American flag above my front door. It's partly as a shield in case anyone who reads my anti patriotic posts finds out where I live they'll see the flag.

Cool! I've always wanted to hang a couple of these from our garage on the 4th. http://www.amazon.com/Valley-Forge-F...words=fan+flag

Edit- Just bought me a Vally Forge fan flag for the garage! I should have bought two, but money is tight and one in the middle will do this year. Saving for a new computer build.

I couldn't put the flag out today due to the rain.
