I'm a US Citizenship and my gf isnt. She's legal to live in the US, but she's a little apprehensive lately because she hasnt heard anything about her greencard. She has an alien number and everything, but no greencard and all she has is a work authorization card thingy (I-94?). Anyways, the person who sponsored her is her uncle who currently resides in maryland. his a$$ hasnt done a thing in regards to my gf's situation and my gf and her family are waiting for his a$$ to do something about this. you dont play around with this type of thing especially now.

anyways, so i'm engage to her and everything so that would mean if we get marry she becomes a citizen, correct? also, then my gf is saying how once she does become a citizen, she will "sponsor" her parents. now these are the same parents who dont give a sh!t about her daugther. i dont really like them and once my gf and i are marry i plan to just move away. i know they are her parents and everything, but the things they do to her doesnt even qualify them to be parents in my eyes. anyways, i dont want to be bother with some shady a$$ thing with granting them to become US citizens through my gf which got it through me. they dont deserve it!

If your gf already got her greencard, her uncle's a$$ don't have nothing more to do. all SHE has to do is wait for atleast 5 yrs. of stay here in the US and then apply for citizenship. Now, if you plan to marry her, it takes 3 yrs before she can apply for citizenship if she married a US citizen. If, she's been here for atleast 3 yrs now, it wouldn't make any difference even if you marry her then she apply for cittizenship after 2 yrs.

just a quick question: is her parents that bad? anyway, they can't apply for citizenship if she won't let them (or petition them) anyway. i was just curious after reading your post.

GOODLUCK!!

Here's supposedly what went down. Her uncle sponsored her back in 1989. ALL her paperwork was lost when her uncle's ex wife burned them in a jealous rage. Some family issue that happened years ago. Anyways, all their greencard was lost becuase of this, but like I said she does have an I-94 which has her alien number on it. She's been trying to get a new one, but supposedly she cant w/o her uncle's help. Is this true? I dont know. I assume she cuold just go reapply for a new card but she says she needs him since he sponsored her family.

Now this website states that she has to LIVE in the US for 3 years if she wants to gain citizenship through a marriage. I am just worry that something may happen to her. I dont give a sh!t about her family. I mean, she has an alien number so why would anything happen to her? Correct? UNless she does something pretty dumb. I cant trust anything nowadays. INS is cracking down on lots of things.

Also, regarding her parents. my gf basically supports her family. her 5 bro/sis and her parents. My gf works and so does her dad, but he works like PT and doesnt make much anyways. her mom gets welfare, but how can you survive with all those kids and the apartment? he really doesnt care about her becuz she tells me story about him ignoring her when she needed him in HS. he didnt want to do anything for her. so, guess what? payback is a biatch huh?

from what i understand, as long as you have alien no. its yours to keep and can be renewed after 10 yrs. her best bet is go to the nearest INS office and ask them what's the best thing to do to get a copy of those important papers. But, if she already has the greencard, that's the only paper she'll get anyway (which bythe way is PINK).

the site you're visiting i think is old. Because when i look at the application fee for citizenship, it says there 225. its 260 bux now plus you don't submit the fingerprint form anymore together with the application form (another 50 bux for finger printing).

Now this website states that she has to LIVE in the US for 3 years if she wants to gain citizenship through a marriage.

that 3 yrs. i think applies AFTER the marriage.

being an immigrant myself, I have been around enough immigrants to have an idea of the schemes that are concocted to get a legal standing in this country;

the lady burning the papers and blah blah blah, i've heard that one before.....remember that most immigrants will do anything to get their papers; so dont think that you're in some nice accidental relationship; think that perhaps this has been schemed already and you're just a pawn standing in the middle...
if i were you, i would run for my life.... run my boy, run!!!

ps....just out of curiosity, what country is your gf from??/

If she had a greencard, but it was lost, she can go to her local INS district office and apply for a replacement. The application she'll need to file is Form I-90, with a fee of $130. She does not need to be with her uncle in order to get a new one. All she needs to bring to the district office is some valid ID, two INS specified passport photos, and her passport.

Now this website states that she has to LIVE in the US for 3 years if she wants to gain citizenship through a marriage. I am just worry that something may happen to her. That is correct, in order for her to be eligible for citizenship, she must have 5 years of continuous residency (meaning she does not leave the country for more than 6 straight months), 3 years if she is married to a U.S. Citizen.
